The inaugural Double Bay Christmas Festival transformed Steyne Park into a magical Christmas wonderland on November 30th, proving that even Sydney rain couldn't dampen our community's festive spirit. From 11am to 8pm, thousands of visitors gathered with umbrellas and raincoats in hand to experience the European-style Christmas markets and spectacular entertainment.
The day was filled with joyful moments as families and friends came together to enjoy the festival's attractions. Children's faces lit up as they whirled on the teacup rides, braved the giant slide, and met Santa – with even some four-legged friends dressed in their Christmas best for photos! The market stalls, curated by Cambridge Markets, offered a wonderful selection of gifts and treats, while local vendors kept spirits high with warming refreshments and a festive sausage sizzle.
As twilight approached, the community gathered for an unforgettable concert produced by Yoyo Talent Agency. The evening began with a heartwarming performance by Kambala school students, before Australian stars Hugh Sheridan, Chris Sebastian, Paulini, and the Diamanté Duo took to the stage. Young talents Monique Raso and Taysha Farrugia also showcased their remarkable abilities, while a particularly special moment saw Mayor Sarah Swan dancing with children as Chris Sebastian led the crowd in Christmas carols.
The festival marked a significant milestone as Double Bay's first major community gathering since pre-Covid times, demonstrating the area's resilience and community spirit. We were honored to welcome distinguished guests including Mayor Sarah Swan, Allegra Spender MP, Ro Knox, and Kellie Sloane who joined in the celebrations.
None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Fortis Development Group, Woollahra Council, Roche Group, Dare Property, and Stewart Residential. Their commitment to our community helped create an event that has already generated calls for an encore in 2025.
While the planned fireworks display had to be cancelled due to weather conditions, the day proved that the true sparkle of Christmas comes from community spirit. Seeing friends traveling interstate to join the celebrations, families braving the weather together, and neighbors connecting over festive treats reminded us all of what makes Double Bay special.
We're already looking forward to December 2025, when we'll once again transform Steyne Park into a Christmas wonderland. The overwhelming positive feedback from this year's event has set the stage for what we hope will become a beloved annual tradition in Double Bay's calendar.
Stay tuned for updates about next year's festival. If the success of this rain-soaked celebration is anything to go by, 2025's event promises to be truly spectacular!
